It has come to our attention that OptumRx sent out a letter dated August 11, 2016, that effective October 1, 2016 all medications dispensed to their patient population must come from a VAWD® accredited wholesaler.
Excerpts from the letter:
As a Network Pharmacy Provider and participant in OptumRx’s Networks, your pharmacy must comply with the terms and conditions of the Agreement and the Provider Manual (“Manual”). The OptumRx 2016 Provider Manual is available on-line at https://learn.optumrx.com/pharmacymanual.
Effective October 1, 2016, changes will be made to the provider manual stating that your pharmacy MUST purchase ALL medications dispensed for claims being dispensed to OptumRx participants from a Verified- Accredited- Wholesale Distributor (VAWD). This accreditation program is offered through the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP).
Smith Drug Company wants to assure our customers that they will be in compliance with this new requirement for products purchased from us since our facilities are VAWD accredited, as noted below:
