An Overview: InSite® In-Facility Medication Packaging and Dispensing System

InSite is a fully automated, onsite medication packaging and delivery system that provides remote dispensing for long-term care and correctional facilities. By enabling secure, automated dispensing within your facility, it helps clinicians improve medication safety, reduces medication waste and saves nurses time.

Optimal for Long-Term Care Pharmacy and Correctional Facilities

We care about medication access

The InSite System stores up to 240 different medication types in a single dispensing unit, providing automated, on-demand compliance packaging for oral solid medications.

When medications are needed by residents, nurses dispense labeled, patient-specific, multi-dose packets on demand. This means nurses no longer spend hours doing narcotic counts and filling medications.

The result: nurses are freed to spend more time on the floor with residents, directly impacting quality of care.

High-Speed Packaging

With InSite, the medication dispensing process is automated and accurate. Nurses can quickly package pharmacist-approved medications before each med pass, or on-demand to facilitate new residents, First Doses, STAT orders and PRNs. InSite packages up to 60 doses per minute with a broad variety of sorting options.

Inventory Management

InSite allows automatic inventory monitoring as well as lot and expiration tracking. The system interfaces with existing information systems, basing its automated inventory replenishment requests on actual medication usage.

Medication Access and Efficiency

The average InSite canister holds about 300 doses and can be filled and processed in roughly the same time it takes to create a single 30-day blister pack. Like having a pharmacy on site, patients don't have to wait for the next pharmacy delivery to receive needed medications.

Medication Security

Unlike the unlocked medication carts often found in nursing facilities, InSite restricts access to stored medications with password protection and locking metal doors. Facility and pharmacy management can track user activities to identify opportunities for staff re-training or uncover mishandling of medications.

Staff Training

At Swisslog Healthcare we understand that frequent nurse turnover can impact the ability to be successful with new technology. In addition to on-site training during implementation, the InSite system offers training videos on demand, which address all the most common functions of the system.
