Julius Besong from University of Maryland Eastern Shore School of Pharmacy has been awarded the 2020 Future Leaders in Healthcare award!

Julius Besong is a 2020 PharmD candidate from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. He is currently working as a Pharmacy intern with Rite Aid. He was born in Tiko, the South West Region of Cameroon. He attended the University of Buea from 2004-2008 where he obtained a B.Sc. in Geology and Environmental Science. Julius moved to Europe in 2009 to pursue a Master's Degree in soil science at the University of Ghent in Belgium. While in Europe, he decided to pursue a degree in Pharmacy in the United States. Before enrolling into Pharmacy school in 2016, Julius worked as a Home Health Aide with ABC Healthcare Service in Washington, D.C.

Julius currently has the following certifications: Rx for Change Ambassador with the United States Public Health Service, Naloxone Administrator for Opioid Overdose by the State of Maryland, Pharmacist based immunization delivery by APhA and Pharmacist Intern in the state of Maryland. He is a member of the Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity and a former rush chair (2017-2018) for the UMES chapter. 

Julius was awarded the CORE Higher Education Future Leaders in Healthcare Award for his school in 2020. He intends to serve his community by working as a Staff Pharmacist in a chain store after graduation, and will later pursue a residency with a speciality in infectious diseases.

The Future Leaders in Healthcare award is presented to healthcare students in the US and Canada that have displayed initiative, curiosity, and a strong work ethic.

Students receiving the Future Leaders in Healthcare award were selected from more than 15,000 healthcare students for their completion rate (volume + level of difficulty) of digital activities within the school’s eLearning center hosted on CORE’s READINESS co-curricular LMS.
